Nickel Tested Cosmetics

Nickel is important as a trace element for all organisms. However, as an allergy trigger in metal alloys, it can become a burden.
The use of nickel is prohibited as an ingredient in cosmetic products, but traces of it may be contained in the manufacturing process. It is not possible to manufacture nickel-free products. Tests can be conducted to establish the nickel content whereby a certain value is set that is considered non-allergenic. Products bearing the "nickel tested" label contain <1 ppm (or <0.00001%) of nickel.

However, it is generally advisable to test cosmetics on a small part of the body (crook of the elbow) and wait 12-72 hours before using them for the first time.
